Charity Golf Day

Charity Golf Day

in aid of Plymouth & District Special Olympics and Rotary Foundation

Friday 16th September 2016

Boringdon Golf Club, Plympton, PL7 4QG

Dear  Golfer

Our annual golfing event this year will be held at the scenic Boringdon Golf Club in Plympton, Plymouth.  Last year we raised over £2000 for the Plymouth Cavitron Fund. We are hoping to beat that amount this year for our chosen charity “Plymouth & District Special Olympics”.

This local organisation is part of an international Special Olympics Movement, which is dedicated to enhancing the lives of those with an Intellectual (Learning) Disability through training and competition in numerous sporting disciplines, in both summer and winter sports. The children can take part from eight years of age and are encouraged to have fun, meet new friends and try out some new sports.

We are inviting you to help us in our fundraising by either;

  • Entering a team of three golfers (£40 per player – for teams of three. Entry is inclusive of a bacon roll and coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf, a two course meal and great prizes)
  • Sponsoring a hole (£25 per hole).
  • Providing a prize.
  • Donating to the day’s fundraising effort.

Please also help us in promoting this event further by letting your colleagues and friends know of it.

We do hope that you will be able to support us in this year’s effort for a very worthy charity. We enclose your entry/donation form.

SO Cornwall Basketball Team Victory!

Special Olympics Cornwall Basketball Team

With funding from Basketball England via the Plymouth Raiders and one of the results of the Sport England Inclusive Sport Fund the Special Olympics Cornwall Basketball club was formed by Steve Hillman, Inclusion Officer for the Cornwall Sports Partnership.

The team entered their first SOGB sanctioned tournament on Saturday 25th June and loved every minute of it. The team won all of their games against tough competition from Plymouth and Exeter but kept their cool and came away as champs.

St Piran’s Event This Weekend

St Piran’s Day – 5th March

Two things for this Saturday’s session at Truro College.

First, it’s St. Piran’s Day, so could everyone try to wear something black or white to mark the occasion? We will be taking some extra photos as well.

Also, it’s an open day at Truro College so please be aware the car park and halls are likely to be busy! Watch out for traffic and don’t worry if there’s loads of extra people about.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Rose.

SOGB Volunteer Matters Newsletter – November 2015

SOGB Volunteer Matters

As you read this edition of Volunteer Matters, 2015 will be drawing to a close and it has been another year of highs and lows. We have been delighted to hear and share the news of so many Special Olympics GB volunteers around the country who have been nominated for awards in their local communities and many have walked away with trophies held high – our congratulations to you all – the recognition you have received is richly deserved!

On a more sombre note, we have also had to say a fond farewell to a number of volunteers, including Jed Renilson and Anne Calvert, who have passed away during the year. They dedicated so much of their time and energy to Special Olympics GB and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with their families and friends as we approach the festive season.
