Research reveals demand for more opportunities for amputees

New research released on 8 February reveals clear demand for more physical activities that are accessible for amputees and people with limb impairments. The findings published in a new report from LimbPower aim to give providers more information and support on this specific target audience. LimbPower hopes it will help others to plan and deliver more appealing and suitable activities for people with limb impairments.

EFDS August Newsletter 2016

EFDS

Welcome to the EFDS August Newsletter for 2016

This edition includes EFDS’ new Media Research Report and Guide, plus the latest news in the Together We Will campaign.

New research finds demand for more disability sport news

With a week to go before the Rio Paralympics, new research from the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) has shown the public’s desire to see more disability sport in the media. With many media channels set to cover elite disability sport at the Rio Paralympics, the report flags the importance of coverage beyond the Games and on a par with non-disabled people in sport. To support journalists and those who provide news content on disabled people in sport, EFDS is also releasing a better practice Guide to accompany the research.

Read the full story and download the Media report and Guide here.

Together We Will…get stronger

This summer, Together We Will is encouraging disabled people to become healthier, stronger and have fun being active with friends and family. As part of the campaign, the National Disability Sports Organisations (NDSOs) and EFDS have published five tip tops to support disabled people on their way to be more active and become stronger – whether that’s physically or mentally, or both.

Follow the conversation on social media with #TogetherWeWill.

SOGB Volunteer Matters Newsletter – November 2015

SOGB Volunteer Matters

As you read this edition of Volunteer Matters, 2015 will be drawing to a close and it has been another year of highs and lows. We have been delighted to hear and share the news of so many Special Olympics GB volunteers around the country who have been nominated for awards in their local communities and many have walked away with trophies held high – our congratulations to you all – the recognition you have received is richly deserved!

On a more sombre note, we have also had to say a fond farewell to a number of volunteers, including Jed Renilson and Anne Calvert, who have passed away during the year. They dedicated so much of their time and energy to Special Olympics GB and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with their families and friends as we approach the festive season.

Gaye Barber
