British Red Cross launches digital campaign to boost first aid skills knowledge
The British Red Cross is targeting the UK’s estimated 10.5 million runners with a new digital campaign that it hopes will spread the knowledge of vital first aid skills.
The charity’s #UpYourGame campaign hopes to encourage runners, clubs and coaches to learn the essential skills needed to act in an emergency.
British Red Cross research revealed today shows that 84% of runners think sports people have a responsibility to look after each other, yet over half (58%) would not have the confidence to help their running partners in a first aid emergency.
Word of the campaign is being spread by social media and is supported by a dedicated website section, a series of educational videos and the charity’s purpose-built smartphone app, something that it’s hoped will be effective given the proliferation of smartphone-based running and fitness apps.
Joe Mulligan, head of first aid education at The British Red Cross said: “Nothing should stand in the way of someone pursuing their much-loved sporting activity. But injuries and accidents do happen from time to time.
“The benefits of first aid are well recognised and our new #UpYourGame campaign hopes to encourage an active British public to incorporate first aid learning into their sporting routine.”
Charity Golf Day
in aid of Plymouth & District Special Olympics and Rotary Foundation
Friday 16th September 2016
Boringdon Golf Club, Plympton, PL7 4QG
Our annual golfing event this year will be held at the scenic Boringdon Golf Club in Plympton, Plymouth. Last year we raised over £2000 for the Plymouth Cavitron Fund. We are hoping to beat that amount this year for our chosen charity “Plymouth & District Special Olympics”.
This local organisation is part of an international Special Olympics Movement, which is dedicated to enhancing the lives of those with an Intellectual (Learning) Disability through training and competition in numerous sporting disciplines, in both summer and winter sports. The children can take part from eight years of age and are encouraged to have fun, meet new friends and try out some new sports.
We are inviting you to help us in our fundraising by either;
- Entering a team of three golfers (£40 per player – for teams of three. Entry is inclusive of a bacon roll and coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf, a two course meal and great prizes)
- Sponsoring a hole (£25 per hole).
- Providing a prize.
- Donating to the day’s fundraising effort.
Please also help us in promoting this event further by letting your colleagues and friends know of it.
We do hope that you will be able to support us in this year’s effort for a very worthy charity. We enclose your entry/donation form.
